Lovely Lytham St Annes

Lytham St Annes is a gorgeous seaside town on the Lancashire coast. Its long, sandy beaches are perfect for swimming, strolling or just enjoying an ice cream in the sun. But don’t take our word for it. You can check out the webcam for yourself! The first thing you’ll notice is that Lytham is much quieter than its near neighbour Blackpool. You won’t find wild nightlife here. Or marauding bands of stags and hens! And that’s what so many visitors find attractive.

A beach holiday without the crowds

The town also has a classic Victorian pleasure pier. An excellent example of its type, the pier extends 600 feet out to sea. There’s also a bandstand and pavilion and lifeboat monument. And plenty of history. The most famous act to have performed on the pier was local boy George Formby, who also lived in the town. The resort is also famous for its traditional beach huts. These are attractive to look at and available to rent for a more comfortable day out on the beach.

A mix of attractions

Technically, the town is a compound. It brings together the four adjacent areas of Lytham, Ansdell, Fairhaven and St Annes-on-the-Sea. Each has its own distinct character, though you can easily walk between them. St Annes is where the seaside attractions are concentrated. Lytham’s own star attraction is a 19th century windmill, lovingly restored and open to visitors. There are also plenty of bars and pubs. You might prefer the wine bars on Henry Street and Dicconson Terrace. Or real ale pubs like the Taps and the Craft House. Either way, you’ll get a warm welcome.

Meanwhile, golfers won’t want to miss out on the ‘royal’ golf club. Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club is on the Open Rota and has also hosted two Ryder Cups. Golf widows (or widowers) can always enjoy the beach! And, of course, proximity to Blackpool means you can even go there for the day. You’re only a short tram ride from the illuminations, Tower Ballroom, pleasure beach and famous piers. But having enjoyed a trip on the wild side, you can retreat back to the peace and quiet of Lytham St Annes.
