The wonder of Warrington

The historic town of Warrington is almost equidistant between Liverpool and Manchester. That puts it at the heart of England’s vibrant north west. As a result, it has excellent connectivity via the M6, M62 and M56 motorways. It also boasts not one but two main railway stations. Between Warrington Central and Warrington Bank Quay, you can take services to London as well as the regional metros. That means the town is a perfect hub for anyone wishing to explore the area for work or pleasure.

More than meets the eye

In fact, you might be surprised to learn what the town itself has to offer. It’s mostly known for its industrial history in the 18th and 19th centuries. But a visit to Warrington Museum and Art Gallery reveals that the town’s story goes back a lot further. It was founded by the conquering Romans 2,000 years ago. And also played a pivotal role in the English Civil War. While you’re at the museum, you can also check out a variety of exhibitions and activities for adults and children.

And if you’re looking for serious entertainment for kids, check out Gulliver's World. Warrington’s very own theme park is loosely inspired by the much-loved story of Gulliver in Lilliput. There are a variety of rides and attractions for little people from three to 13. Another key attraction is Walton Hall and Gardens, just outside the town. The former home and gardens of Lord and Lady Daresbury features acres of tranquil and idyllic parkland. There’s a children’s zoo, adventure golf and pitch ‘n’ putt. As well as woodland and orchard walks and a picturesque pond. Perfect for picnics.

Retail therapy and a home from home

Perhaps unexpectedly, Warrington itself is also an excellent destination for shopaholics. It has a wealth of shopping centres and retail parks. And a wide variety of outlets to browse. And here’s a fun fact. Not only does Warrington have an IKEA. It was the first ever IKEA to open in the UK, way back in 1987. If you’re a fan of flat-pack furniture and meatballs, it’s a must!

The town also has a lively music scene, bringing in talent from the region’s major cities. And plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants for an evening out. Despite being a former industrial town, Warrington is rich in green spaces too. Making it a pleasant place simply to wander around.
